Live a Month in Boryeong, Korea — With Up to ~KRW 2.39M in Travel Support
Ever wanted to slow-travel in a Korean seaside city — famous for its mud festival and beaches — while having your travel costs covered? Boryeong City is recruiting participants for its 2026 "Live for a Month" (second-half) program, and this round includes a dedicated category for foreign residents. Selected teams receive lodging, activity, and other support worth up to about KRW 2.39 million per team (roughly US$1,750). Applications run August 18–31, 2026 — here's how it works.
What is it?
Part of the "2025–2026 Visit Chungcheongnam-do (Chungnam) Year," this is a stay-type tourism program: you live in Boryeong for 7–30 days, travel freely, experience local attractions, culture, and festivals, and share your trip on social media. You travel, create content, and receive support in return.
Who can apply, and when do you travel?
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Eligibility | Aged 19+ with a registered address outside Chungnam Province, able to travel 7–30 days and promote Boryeong via personal SNS. A separate quota exists for foreign residents. |
| Travel window | Between Sep 18 – Nov 30, 2026, choose 7 to 30 days. |
| Where | Stay and complete tasks in Boryeong (visits to other Chungnam cities allowed; at least 50% of support must be spent in Boryeong). |
How to apply
- Application period: Aug 18 – Aug 31, 2026
- How: by email to minji1002@korea.kr
- Selection size: ~10 domestic teams and ~5 foreign-resident teams (1–2 people per team)
- Results: announced around Sep 7, 2026 (selected teams notified individually)
- Inquiries: Boryeong City Tourism Division, +82-41-930-6564
Required documents include an application form, a personal-data consent form, a pledge, and a resident registration document; SNS-follower proof is optional (for bonus points). Missing documents mean disqualification.
What support do you get? (up to ~KRW 2.39M / team)
| Item | Basis | Support |
|---|---|---|
| Lodging | per night / team | KRW 50,000 (twin room, actual cost) |
| Incidentals (food, transport) | per day / team | KRW 20,000 |
| Activity fee | per person | KRW 100,000 (7–10 days) / 150,000 (11–30 days) |
| Travel insurance | per person | KRW 20,000 |
All amounts are reimbursed against actual receipts after the trip, paid to the team representative. At the maximum, that's roughly KRW 2.22M (solo) / 2.39M (two people). No payment is made if you stay fewer than the minimum days.
💡 Lodging note: Only legally registered accommodations within Boryeong qualify. Unregistered/illegal lodging and handwritten receipts are not accepted.
How are participants selected?
Applications are scored on motivation (30), travel plan (30), and promotion plan (40), with selection by highest score; anything under 70 points is excluded. Bonus points (up to 7) apply for larger social followings (e.g., 1,000+ YouTube subscribers or 2,000+ SNS followers).
What are the tasks?
This isn't a no-strings grant — you must complete 5 required tasks and at least 1 optional task to receive support:
- Required: invite/host a guest with photo proof, write travel reviews (500+ characters, 2+ photos) on the official tourism sites, post content on SNS/blog, complete stamp-tour check-ins, and fill out a satisfaction survey.
- Optional (1+): a companion-trip content piece, a promo video/short-form clip, a festival review, a local-settlement review, or a creative work.
- Required hashtags: #충남방문의해 #보령한달살기 #보령여행 (plus the attraction name)
After the trip, submit the report and evidence by registered mail within 15 days (email/fax not accepted); support is transferred by the 25th of the following month.
⚠️ No double-dipping: if you're also selected for another Chungnam city's month-stay program (Seosan, Nonsan, Buyeo, Cheongyang, Hongseong, Yesan, Taean), you'll be excluded here. Apply to one only.
Bottom line
If you'd love to actually live in a Korean coastal city for a few weeks while keeping costs down, this is a rare chance. The application window is short (closes Aug 31), so prepare your travel and promotion plans and apply early. Foreign residents should confirm eligibility specifics with the city before applying.
