Busan Travel Guide 2026: Getting There, Getting Around & Top Sights
Planning a trip to Busan in 2026? Korea's second city pairs city beaches, seafood markets, a rainbow hillside village and seaside temples — all within a cheap subway ride. This first-timer's guide covers how to get there from Seoul, how to get around, what to see, and roughly what it costs.
Why visit Busan?
Busan (부산) sits on Korea's southeast coast and is the country's largest port city. Compared with Seoul it feels more relaxed and more outdoorsy: you can go from a sandy beach to a mountain temple to a buzzing fish market in a single day. It's an easy 2.5-hour train ride from Seoul, which makes it the most popular add-on to a Seoul trip.
How to get from Seoul to Busan
The fastest and most popular option is the high-speed train. You have two operators on almost the same route: KTX (run by KORAIL) and SRT. Both leave from Seoul; SRT departs from Suseo Station in southern Seoul, so check which station is closer to you.
| Option | Travel time | Fare from (one way) |
|---|---|---|
| KTX | ~2 hr 30 min | from ₩60,000 (roughly US$43) |
| SRT | ~2 hr 20 min | from ₩52,000 (roughly US$37) |
| Express bus | ~4 hr + | from ₩25,000 (roughly US$18) |
| Domestic flight | ~1 hr in air | Varies (add airport time) |
Fares are starting prices and change with seat class, time of day and how early you book. USD figures are approximate and move with the exchange rate.
New in 2026: KORAIL doubled the KTX advance-booking window to 60 days before departure (effective October 1, 2026, up from 30 days). You can now lock in weekend and holiday seats much earlier — book ahead for Friday evenings, Sunday afternoons and long weekends, when trains sell out.
Getting around Busan
Busan's subway is clean, signposted in English, and the easiest way to move between sights. Tap in with a T-money or Cashbee transit card, or buy a single-use QR ticket from the machine.
| Ticket | Adult fare |
|---|---|
| Single journey, transit card (Section 1, up to 10 km) | ₩1,600 |
| Single journey, transit card (Section 2, over 10 km) | ₩1,800 |
| Single-use QR ticket | ₩1,700 / ₩1,900 |
| 1-day pass (unlimited) | ₩6,000 |
| 3-day pass | ₩13,000 |
From Gimhae International Airport (PUS)
The numbered subway lines don't reach the airport directly. Take the Busan–Gimhae Light Rail from Airport Station, then transfer. For Haeundae: light rail to Sasang → Line 2 toward Jangsan → stay on to Haeundae. For Busan Station / Nampo: light rail to Sasang → Line 2 to Seomyeon → Line 1. Note that the 1-day and 3-day metro passes do not cover the light rail, so keep a transit card for that leg.
Top things to do in Busan
1. Haeundae Beach & Blueline Park
Busan's most famous beach, backed by a skyline of towers. Just east, the scenic Haeundae Blueline Park runs along the old coastal railway. Ride the tiny two-person Sky Capsule above the shore or take the slower Beach Train along the water.
- Sky Capsule: around ₩35,000 per capsule (up to 2 people, one way); roughly ₩38,000 for 3 and ₩41,000 for 4. Price is per capsule, not per person.
- Beach Train: about ₩7,000 for a single ride.
Capsule and train prices are approximate and vary by route and package; check the official booking site before you go.
2. Gamcheon Culture Village
A hillside maze of pastel houses, murals and tiny art shops — Busan's most photographed spot. It's free to walk around; you can buy a cheap stamp-trail map at the information centre if you want a souvenir route. Wear comfortable shoes for the steep lanes.
3. Gwangalli Beach & Gwangan Bridge
A relaxed beach lined with cafés and bars, facing the illuminated Gwangan Bridge. Come at sunset and stay for the night view — on many weekends there's a drone light show over the water.
4. Haedong Yonggungsa Temple
A rare Buddhist temple built right on the sea cliffs northeast of the city. The waves crashing beside the shrines make it one of Busan's most atmospheric sights. Entry is free; go early to beat the crowds.
5. Jagalchi Market & Nampo
Korea's largest seafood market — pick your catch downstairs and have it prepared upstairs. The surrounding Nampo / BIFF Square area is full of street food, cinemas and shopping, and connects to the Gukje Market.
A simple 2-day Busan itinerary
Day 1 (east & coast): Haeundae Beach → Blueline Park Sky Capsule → Haedong Yonggungsa Temple → sunset at Gwangalli Beach.
Day 2 (city & culture): Gamcheon Culture Village → Jagalchi Market lunch → Nampo / BIFF Square → Gukje Market shopping.
First-timer tips
- Download Naver Map or KakaoMap — Google Maps gives limited walking/transit directions in Korea.
- Keep a small amount of cash for market stalls, though most places take cards.
- Book KTX/SRT return seats early now that the 60-day window is open.
- Busan is hilly — Gamcheon and Yonggungsa involve stairs and slopes.

Frequently asked questions
How many days do you need in Busan?
Two full days cover the main highlights — one for the coast (Haeundae, Blueline Park, Yonggungsa) and one for the city (Gamcheon, Jagalchi, Nampo). Add a third day if you want Taejongdae, Songdo or a slower pace.
Is it better to take the KTX or fly from Seoul to Busan?
For most travellers the train wins. The KTX takes about 2.5 hours city-centre to city-centre, while a flight is only ~1 hour in the air but adds airport transfers, check-in and security — often making total door-to-door time similar, with less hassle on the train.
How do I get from Gimhae Airport to Haeundae?
Take the Busan–Gimhae Light Rail from Airport Station to Sasang, transfer to subway Line 2 toward Jangsan, and ride to Haeundae. A taxi is faster but much more expensive. Note the metro day passes don't cover the light rail section.
Is Busan worth visiting in autumn 2026?
Yes. Autumn (October–November) brings mild, dry weather that's ideal for the beaches, coastal walks and hillside village without summer's heat or crowds, making it one of the best times to visit.
